Warm up this winter as the Barrington Cultural Commission re-creates the “Town-Warming,” a 1940s-era Barrington tradition that brought together the nation’s and our community’s most influential business, religious, academic, and civic leaders for two weeks of robust discussion on the issues of the day. Over a period of several years until World War II, thousands of Barringtonians participated in these intellectually stimulating events.
This year, we re-imagine the town-warming with our modern-day version, a one-day event featuring several topic-focused panels and highlighted by keynote speakers (and Barrington residents) Hank Paulson, former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, and Wendy Paulson, chair emerita of Rare, an international conservation organization.
Other speakers and panelists include John Williams, WGN radio personality; Greg Brown, chairman and CEO, Motorola Solutions; Bill Bishop, Chief Architect, Brick Meets Click; Dr. Brian Harris, Superintendent of Schools, Barrington School District 220; Captain James D. Hawkins, Commanding Officer, Karen Lambert, CEO, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital; Laurence Msall, President, Civic Federation; Naval Station Great Lakes; David F. Nelson, Founding Member, Barrington Area Community Foundation and Senior Vice President, UBS Financial Services; Sam Oliver, President, Non-Profit Consulting; and W. Bradley Stetson, Chairman & CEO, Barrington Bank & Trust.
Barrington Village President Karen Darch serves as moderator for the day, and Barrington historian Barbara Benson will provide a historical perspective for the event.
Tickets are $55 and include continental breakfast, lunch, coffee, and snacks. A cocktail reception will follow. Space is EXTREMELY LIMITED.
Presented by the Barrington Cultural Commission. Reception generously sponsored by Barrington Bank & Trust.
