“I Knew I Was in Trouble When…” Storytelling Event

March 11, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This fun storytelling event uses a family-friendly version of the popular “Moth Radio Hour” as its model. Award-winning professional storyteller Megan Wells (pictured below) will join professional Emmy-winning storyteller Jim May (pictured right), and a group of local storytellers will explore the theme “I Knew I Was in Trouble When…” Jim May is the artistic director of the Spring Grove Storytelling Festival and receives rave reviews for his family shows that combine hilarious stories as well as thoughtful insights.

Jim May’s storytelling has taken him across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. His book, The Farm On Nippersink Creek, about growing up in rural Northern Illinois, received rave reviews and won an American Library Association “Best Book” award. His children’s Boo Baby Girl series is a favorite of children, teachers, and librarians across the Chicagoland region.

Megan began her career as an actress and director in Chicago. She also worked as a communication consultant to Fortune 500 companies. A lover of words, Megan helped executives craft presentations with great care for the structure, rhetoric, and dynamic of words carried from mouth to ear. After a workshop, an enthusiastic client said, “You should tell stories,” and suggested a trip to the National Storytelling Festival
in Jonesborough, Tennessee. There, Megan discovered the art of storytelling. After sharing a personal story at the open mic, Megan was approached by the MC, Rafe Martin. A featured teller at the festival, Rafe asked, “Are you a storyteller?” Megan replied, “I don’t even know what that is!” Rafe replied, “You are.”
