To kick off our spring 3rd Thursday series, we present an exhibition of pastels exploring the language of painting through the vision of two artists. Friends and often painting partners, Julie Skoda and Kathleen Newman are both inspired by many of the same themes in their work through individual experience and perspective.
Kathleen Newman, IAPS/MC, PSA, AIS, CPP, TWSA, ASMA, combines a sense of focused observation and sensitive interpretation in her award winning pastel and oil paintings, specializing in harbor settings, landscape and urban living. Her work is held in many private collections as well as the Ritz Carlton Orlando, Ameritech, IBM, MCI, Disney, Deloitte, American Dental Association and recent additions to the new Prentice Hall, Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She currently teaches pastel and urban sketching classes in Chicago and workshops throughout the country. See her artwork at www.kathleennewman.com.
Julie Skoda is an award-winning pastel artist from Western Springs, Illinois. Her expressive landscapes exhibit rich color and sensitive light. Julie is a signature member of the Chicago Pastel Painters and the Degas Society, an associate member of the Pastel Society of America and the Vice President of the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. She also teaches pastel painting classes and workshops in the Chicago area. Her work can be viewed online at www.julieskoda.com.
This event features a jazz duo, snacks, and a cash bar.
