Judy Skulborstad, an impressionist artist, and Barb Rydz Ross, an abstract artist, have been friends for over 20 years through their shared passion for their artistic expression with color and light. Each has a unique approach to interpreting their observations of life, and this show is their collaboration of alternate viewpoints in their work. They will also showcase a selection of interpretations of a similar subject/theme using their unique approaches. 

Judy paints with pastel which is dry, pure pigment in a stick form. She loves the beauty, feel, versatility and immediacy of this medium. A lifelong love of drawing, color, nature and traveling has provided her with endless inspiration; her focus is on portraying the effect of light on a subject in nature and everyday scenes. Her passion is to translate into a visual language those moments and visual delights that have forced her to stop, observe and connect. Sometimes those moments are fleeting or sometimes they afford me a more leisurely observance and meditation.  

Barb paints with acrylics and also uses multimedia and layering techniques to depict a scene or mood with little or no attempt at pictorial representation. Barb was born in Belgium to Polish immigrants and concentration camp survivors. She has lived in New York, London, Hong Kong, Germany and Chicago. She earned a B.A. degree in Studio Art from The City College of New York (CCNY) and later Certificates in Drawing and Painting from the Art Institute of Chicago where she received a Certificate in Drawing and later a Certificate in Painting. Ba  Barb learned to listen to her intuitive inner voice by using color, line, texture and movement to express her deepest sentiments. It was here that she experienced what artistic expression really meant and its importance in her life, community and spirituality.
