Cocktails & Conversations: The Power of Graphic Novels with Dr. Elizabeth Trembley

May 1 @ 5:00 pm

Explore the art of comics and graphic memoirs with award-winning author Dr. Elizabeth Trembley in this engaging Cocktails & Conversations event.

Barrington’s White House presents a compelling Cocktails & Conversations event with Dr. Elizabeth Trembley, award-winning mystery novelist, graphic memoirist, and creative writing teacher. In her lively lecture, Comics Rock!, Dr. Trembley challenges outdated assumptions about comics and graphic novels, exploring how this dynamic medium demands sophisticated reading skills and offers unique ways to tell stories.

Through her acclaimed graphic memoir Look Again (Street Noise Books, 2022), named one of the American Library Association’s best graphic novels for adults in 2023, Dr. Trembley demonstrates how comics can illuminate personal experiences and foster deep emotional connections. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to graphic memoirs, this conversation will inspire you to rethink the power of comics – and even consider creating your own, no drawing skills required!

This event is part of Barrington’s White House’s new Cocktails & Conversation series, designed to offer intimate, first-floor gatherings. Enjoy cocktails from our cash bar, time for socializing, and meaningful conversations with the speaker and fellow guests. Your ticket purchase includes (1) beverage of your choice.

NEW: Join us before the event for pre-show cocktails in the first-floor lounge of Barrington’s White House starting at 4:30 pm. Enjoy a cash bar, explore the historic charm of the house, connect with fellow guests, and learn about our rich history.
