In partnership with the Barrington Writers Workshop, Barrington’s White House is pleased to welcome award-winning mystery novelist Sara Paretsky for an engaging author talk and book signing.
Sara Paretsky revolutionized the mystery genre in 1982 with the introduction of her iconic female private investigator, V.I. Warshawski, in Indemnity Only. By creating a detective with the grit and intelligence to navigate the mean streets, Paretsky challenged a genre where women were historically portrayed as vamps or victims. Her work has opened doors for other writers, and she is the founder of Sisters in Crime, a worldwide organization advocating for women crime writers.
Paretsky’s novels have been translated into nearly 30 languages and have garnered numerous accolades, including the Cartier Diamond Dagger for lifetime achievement from the British Crime Writers’ Association and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America.
Join us for an afternoon of insightful discussion as Paretsky shares her experiences in transforming the mystery novel and her journey in creating one of the genre’s most compelling characters. Independent bookstore, Read Between the Lynes from Woodstock, IL will have books available for purchase and signing following the talk.
