The Miró Quartet Presents “Poems & Prose: A Quartet Narrative”

September 17, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The Míró Quartet presents “Poems & Prose: A Quartet Narrative,” which will be recorded for later broadcast on WFMT 98.7 classical radio.

Join us to kick off our 2023 Fall Cultural Season with the world-renowned Miró Quartet presenting “Poems & Prose: A Quartet Narrative.” The Miró Quartet is one of America’s most celebrated string quartets, having performed throughout the world on the most prestigious concert stages. The ensemble will perform Dvořák’s Selections from “Cypresses”; Schubert’s Quartet in D minor, D. 810, “Death and the Maiden” (movement 2); Caroline Shaw’s Microfictions; and Brahms’ Quartet in C minor, Op. 51, No. 1.

Since 2003, the Miró has served as the quartet in residence at the Butler School of Music, and for the past 25 years they have performed a wide range of repertoire that pays homage to the legacy of the string quartet while looking forward to the future of chamber music by commissioning new works and collaborating with some of today’s most important artists.

Based in Austin, TX, and thriving on the area’s storied music scene, the Miró takes pride in finding new ways to communicate with audiences of all backgrounds. Committed to music education, members of the Quartet have given master classes at universities and conservatories throughout the world.

The Miró Quartet took its name and its inspiration from the Spanish artist Joan Miró, whose Surrealist works — with subject matter drawn from the realm of memory, dreams, and imaginative fantasy — are some of the most groundbreaking, influential, and admired of the 20th century.

Champagne reception begins at 2:30 p.m. Full appetizer reception with an open bar follows the concert, providing an opportunity for our audience to meet the performers.

NOTE: This event is entirely in-person. No virtual tickets are available. If you are having trouble purchasing tickets please contact us at culturalevents@barringtonswhitehouse.com or 224-512-4066.
