Two hundred years ago the people of Illinois had a big reason to celebrate! They
celebrated becoming the 21st state of the United States of America.
After the 4th of July parade, join us at the Barrington White House for a “Party Like It’s
1818!” Dance the dances and hear the music that may have played as the 32,000
Illinoisans celebrated statehood. There will be a craft table for children and historic items
for them to see from 1818. Activities will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 145 W.
Main Street in Barrington.
This is a family friendly event to which all are welcome! It is a Party! Bring your dancing
shoes, your dramatic flair and your sense of humor. Participants will be encouraged to
participate. Learn how to dance a quadrille and a reel; historic shawls and caps will be
provided for the ladies, as you step back in time.
Well-known Chicago performer Ellie of Ellie Presents will be your hostess, and Cliff Long
will accompany her on historic instruments – fiddle, flute, mandolin and bouzouki. Guests
may be called upon to voice a political speech, read a proclamation, sit for a silhouette
portrait, or lead a quadrille dance.
This is a free community event.
