3rd Thursdays Art Night Out: “Transparent by Nature” with Michael Ireland
March 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Watercolorist Michael Ireland has participated in the creative process for over 50 years, beginning with his studies at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Under the direction of master instructor Irving Shapiro, he began to explore the effects of light and color through transparent watercolor, developing a passion for the medium that has lasted throughout his career. He says, “My work ranges from representational artwork to pieces that break down some of the walls that define traditional watercolor. Yet in the end, every painting is ultimately a study in color, value, space, and form, as it should be.”
Michael Ireland is a nationally recognized artist as well as an award-winning creative director and designer. His painting style and technique challenges the scale and format associated with traditional transparent watercolor resulting in some of his recent works measuring up to over 20 feet in length. This process and approach has led to his artwork being placed in collections throughout the country. He is a member of the National Watercolor Society, Elmhurst Art Guild, and Illinois Watercolor Society. Recently, one of his works, “Conifer,” received the Helen Browne Memorial Award for watercolor at the 88th Annual Juried Exhibition of the Hudson River Valley Art Association. Michael’s home and studio is in Cary, Illinois.
